Trust, or betray?
Agon is a game theory game. Each round you choose to cooperate or betray, and what you earn depends on what the other side does. It is the prisoner's dilemma that Robert Axelrod put to the test in his famous 1980 tournament.
What is Agon
A game for thinking, not button mashing. Every opponent is a program with its own strategy (from Tit for Tat to the original programs of the 1980 tournament) and is always shown as a bot. Works offline, no account. Free, in 33 languages.
The dilemma, in one table
Each round, both choose at the same time. If you cooperate and so does the other, you both win. Betray a cooperator and you gain more… but if you both betray, you both lose.
| You \ Rival | Cooperates | Betrays |
|---|---|---|
| Cooperate | 3 · 3 | 0 · 5 |
| Betray | 5 · 0 | 1 · 1 |
